The history of a rock era—told through its greatest posters!

From 1972 to 1982, rock posters—like rock itself—exploded with power and invention. Part visual history, part visceral history, Cult Rock Posters traces the evolution of pop music, from glam to punk to new age, during a turbulent decade. These are the posters that inspired a generation—and interviews with rock stars, artists, photographers, and promoters fill in behind-the-scenes details. Author Roger Crimlis, one of Britain’s most renowned collectors of rock posters, shares his own favorites, all in raw, torn-from-the-wall format. Adam Ant, David Bowie, Blondie, Marc Bolan, Bow Wow Wow, The Clash, Alice Cooper, Ian Dury, Brian Eno, Brian Ferry, Malcolm McLaren, Iggy Pop, Roxy Music, the Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, the Sex Pistols, X-ray Spex—if they were out there, they are in here. Gritty, rough, rude, the posters in this one-of-a-kind collection scream the story of their times.
  • Nearly 200 posters—for Bowie, The Clash, Iggy Pop, the Sex Pistols, many more
  • Traces rock posters through the '70s and into the '80s, from glam to punk to new wave
  • Interviews with rock stars, artists, greative geniuses
Roger Crimlis has been collecting classic posters from the punk rock era for more than 25 years. He started as a schoolboy, when he would scrounge display copies from record shops. His collection of 1970s posters is now believed to be one of the largest in Great Britain. He lives in London. Alwyn W. Turner writes about pop culture of the 1960s and ‘70s. The founder of the Trash Fiction website, he is the author of The Biba Experience. He lives in London.
